I work with hot glass
using an original technique that I created. I take 2100°F
glass out of a furnace using a large, custom-made steel ladle. The
glass is poured into one mould to form its outline, then
I pick up the glass and drape it over another mould. While
it is draped over the second mould I work it with tools to
create waves. This must all happen in a matter of minutes,
as the glass hardens quickly. Next, I place the piece into
a 950°F kiln where it can cool at a very slow and controlled
rate. This process creates a texture with a watery, organic
look. |
